MIL-R-46089 Silicone
MIL-R-46089 silicone from ElastaPro meets the requirements of a U.S. military specification for a closed-cell sponge silicone. This rubber specification superseded MIL-R-46089B and was itself superseded by the ASTM D1056 standard for similar materials. MIL-R-46089 is still referenced on older part drawings, however.
MIL-R-4609 silicone rubber is classified by grades, forms, sheet sizes, and sheet thicknesses.

Closed Cell Silicone Foam for Military Applications
Closed cell silicone foam offers advantages like superior moisture resistance excellent thermal insulation, high durability, and resistance to extreme temperatures. These properties make it ideal for applications requiring a waterproof, airtight barrier, such as sealing, gasketing, and high-performance insulation. It also adds structural rigidity and is flame-resistant, though it is generally denser, less flexible, and more expensive than open-cell foam. Applications for this military silicone include aerodynamic gaskets and weather tight rain seals on aircraft and missiles.
