Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About Silicone
Technical and Quality-Assurance Answers for Design Engineers and Fabricators
ElastaPro delivers high‑performance silicone materials fast — with the consistency, quality, and responsiveness engineers and buyers count on. This FAQ provides answers to the questions we hear most, from material specs and certifications to lead times and custom formulations.
Whether you need silicone sheet, continuous rolls, or uncured compounds, use these FAQs to get clarity fast so you can keep projects moving. And if you don’t see your question here, let us know what you need — because getting you the right silicone solution is what we do.
What is ElastaPro’s Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)?
The minimum order quantity for standard products is just $100 USD. Custom color-matched, specialty uncured compounds, or custom-compounded rolls may require a specific minimum run size.
What is your typical lead time for orders?
Standard stocked items and popular solid or cellular silicone grades typically ship within short turnarounds (often within 1 to 2 weeks). Custom formulations, specific color matches, or non-standard gauge runs may take longer.
What sheet sizes, widths, and continuous roll dimensions do you manufacture?
ElastaPro produces solid silicone sheeting, cellular (sponge and foam) silicone, and continuous rolls. Standard rolls are typically produced in widths up to 36” or 48”, with foam silicone available in standard 19” widths.
Gauges range from thin continuous sheeting (1/32” or thinner) up to thick molded sheets (up to 2” thick for closed-cell sponge). Custom slitting to specified widths is also available to fit your conversion equipment.
What durometer (hardness) ranges are available for solid and cellular silicone?
Solid silicone sheeting is available in Shore A durometers ranging from 20 to 90 Shore A, spanning ultra-soft to firm grades. Closed-cell silicone sponge and foam products are manufactured in low, medium, and high-density formulations to meet precise compression-deflection requirements.
Can ElastaPro supply silicone with Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive (PSA) or custom backing?
Yes. We can apply pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA) to solid, sponge, and foam silicone sheeting to simplify die-cutting and speed up installation during gasketing and assembly operations. Slitting to custom widths with or without PSA backing is also available.
What silicone polymer chemistries and grades do you offer?
We compound and manufacture products using a full range of silicone chemistries:
- VMQ (Methyl-Vinyl): General purpose, commercial, FDA, and high-strength grades.
- FVMQ (Fluorosilicone): Fuel, solvent, and chemical-resistant sheeting (compliant with AMS-R-25988 / MIL-DTL-25988).
- PVMQ / PMQ: Extreme low-temperature performance grades.
- Uncured Silicone Compounds: Formulated for molding, extrusion, or calendering, using either peroxide or platinum cure systems.
What temperature ranges can ElastaPro silicone materials withstand?
Standard ElastaPro silicone materials perform continuously from -65°F to +500°F (-54°C to +260°C).
Specialty extreme high-temperature formulations can withstand continuous exposure up to 572°F (300°C), while phenyl-based (PVMQ) extreme low-temperature silicone maintains flexibility in environments down to -100°F (-73°C) or lower.
Do you provide a Certificate of Analysis (COA) and material traceabilities with every shipment?
Yes. ElastaPro provides a full Certificate of Analysis (COA) with every batch shipped. As an AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer, complete batch traceability, lot tracking, and physical testing documentation accompany your order to ensure strict compliance with your quality and compliance procedures.
Which military, aerospace, and regulatory specifications do your silicones comply with?
We manufacture silicones to meet a wide range of industry specifications, including:
- Aerospace & Defense: A-A-59588 (formerly ZZ-R-765), AMS-R-25988 (FVMQ), BMS, DMS, PWA, and MIL-SPEC callouts.
- Food & Healthcare: FDA 21 CFR 177.2600, 3-A Sanitary Standards, USDA, USP Class VI, and ISO 10993.
- Industrial & Flammability: UL 94 V-0, UL 94 HB, ASTM D2000, ASTM D1056 (sponge), and FAR 25.853.
